Columbus statue stays down

MANHATTAN — The Italian-American Defense League can’t challenge a decision by New Haven, Conn., to remove a Christopher Columbus statue from the historic Wooster Square Park, the Second Circuit ruled, upholding a lower court’s dismissal of the group’s lawsuit. The appeals court rejected the nonprofit organization’s argument that it has a property interest in the preservation of the park and its structures. The city’s charter gives it the power to manage and control all city property, including the statue.
