College Demands $30 Million From Ex-Prof

QUEENS (CN) - St. John's University claims its former professor Sanford Bolton owes it $30 million - 30% of the money he got from intellectual property derived from his work at the university. It also sued Hygrosol Corp. and Spiridon Spireas, to whom some of the money allegedly was diverted.

The complaint in Queens County Court does not specify the nature of the intellectual property. Bolton lives in Tucson, where, according to his resumé posted on the Internet, he is a visiting professor at the University of Arizona. He is an expert on using statistics to evaluate pharmaceuticals. His resumé states that he was a professor at St. John's from 1980 to 1994.

St. Johns claims that "on one or more occasions since approximately 2002," Bolton got money from his intellectual property and did not pay the college its share.

Spireas and Hygrosol are in Clifton, N.J., according to the complaint.

St. Johns is represented by Michael Keane with Garfunkel, Wild & Travis of Great Neck, N.Y.
