ST. LOUIS - The name of the new law firm emerging from the merger of Husch & Eppenberger and Blackwell Sanders was decided by a coin flip: Husch Blackwell Sanders. "The firm name was decided by the flip of a coin because we felt that in a true merger of equals this was the most fair way to determine the new name," said Joseph Conran, co-chairman of the new firm.
Husch Blackwell Sanders will have two major practice areas - business services and litigation, and dispute resolution. Conran and fellow co-chairman David Fenley are on the new firm's six-member executive board.
"Each firm's individual strengths multiply when brought together," Fenley said. "Both are financially successful and proudly enjoy longstanding relationships with leading companies and not-for-profit organizations. The partners have embraced this merger with a great amount of optimism about this larger legal services platform. We see a wealth of opportunities for increased service to existing clients, and expansion in existing and new markets."
Husch & Eppenberger and Blackwell Sanders were Nos. 175 and 179, respectively, on the Am Law 200 List, which ranks firms based on gross revenue. The new firm will have 630 attorneys and will be ranked in the top 100, with anticipated revenue of $275 million this year. Husch Blackwell Sanders will have offices in Kansas City, St. Louis, Springfield and Jefferson City, Mo,; Omaha and Lincoln, Neb.; Chattanooga and Memphis, Tenn.; Peoria and Belleville, Ill.; Overland Park, Kan.; Washington, D.C.; and London.
