Closed-Circuit TV |Patent Case Reinstated

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Federal Circuit revived a patent dispute between Elbex Video and Sensormatic Electronics Corp. over an invention used to remotely control closed circuit television cameras.

Elbex invented a device that prevents an operator from using the wrong CCTV camera by sending encoded signals between a monitor and the individual cameras. Elbex claimed Sensormatic's CCTV systems infringed on these devices.

The district court granted summary judgment to Sensormatic based on its finding that Sensormatic's CCTV systems do not involve data being sent from the camera to the monitor.

But the patent claim covered means other than a monitor for receiving video signals and first signal codes, the circuit ruled. Remanded. See ruling.
