Clinton Releases 2015 |Income Tax Information

(CN) - Hillary Clinton's campaign on Friday released income tax information that shows the Democratic nominee and her husband paid a federal tax rate of 34.2 percent on a combined income of about $10.5 million, and donated 9.8 percent of their income to charity last year.

The Clintons released their 2015 filings Friday afternoon. Her campaign also released returns from running mate Tim Kaine and his wife.

The campaign says the Kaines have donated 7.5 percent of their income to charity over the last decade. They paid an effective tax rate of 25.6 percent in 2015.

The Clinton campaign used the release of the candidate's tax returns undercut the trustworthiness of rival Donald Trump. He has refused to disclose any returns, breaking tradition with all recent presidential candidates.

"In stark contrast [to the Clintons], Donald Trump is hiding behind fake excuses and backtracking on his previous promises to release his tax returnss," said Hillary for America Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri in a written statement.

"He has failed to provide the public with the most basic financial information disclosed by every major candidate in the last 40 years. What is he trying to hide?" Palmieri added.

Trump says he won't release them until Internal Revenue Service completes audits of his returns.

The Clintons have disclosed returns for every year since 1977.

The Trump campaign responded Friday afternoon with a statement released under the name of Jason Miller, the campaign's senior communications advisor.

"Hillary Clinton has turned over the only records nobody wants to see from her — the American public wants to see the 33,000 emails she deleted to obstruct an FBI investigation," Miller said. "We want to see the Clinton Foundation records showing how the Clintons sold our uranium to Russia, ripped off Haiti and cut deals with oppressive regimes around the world. We want to see the pay-for-play emails that Clinton's Chief of Staff, Cheryl Mills, refuses to turn over. We want to see the transcripts of the secret Wall Street speeches Clinton was paid $10,000 dollars-a-minute to give. We want to see the records the night of Benghazi that explain why Secretary Clinton didn't send in reinforcements as soon as the attack had begun.

"This document release is nothing more than an attempt at distraction and misdirection by an individual who created and then purged an illegal private email server," the statement said.
