Clinton Regains Mojo |in Latest NBC News Poll

(CN) - Hillary Clinton is back on the campaign trail following a bout of pneumonia and her renewed effort to sway to voters is gaining traction, a new NBC News/SurveyMonkey polls says.

The poll released Tuesday found Clinton now has the support of 50 percent of likely voters, compared to Republican Donald Trump's 45 percent.

Further, Clinton's five-point lead holds among likely voters even when respondents are asked their opinion on a four-person race that includes Libertarian Gary Johnson and the Green Party's Jill Stein.

In that case, Clinton garnered the support of 45 percent of likely voters, compared to 40 percent for Trump, 10 percent for Johnson and 4 percent for Stein.

This week's features a shift in methodology, focusing on likely voters rather than the larger pool of registered voters.

However, the pollsters didn't ignore the group they've based their previous polls on.

When this week's poll takers asked registered voters their preferences, Clinton's lead edged up to six points. Last week, the Democrat's lead among registered voters was only four percentage points.

Clinton also scored when voters were asked who they think will win the presidency, regardless of their preference.

As of today, 56 percent of likely voters think Clinton will win, while just 39 percent think Trump will win.

If there was a bright spot for Trump among the myriad of polls released Tuesday, it was in his continuing dominance in the USC Dornsife/L.A. Times Presidential Election Daybreak Poll, which shows him with a five percent lead over Clinton nationally.

Trump could also take heart in The Field Poll released Tuesday which showed Clinton's lead over him softening in California.

While Clinton continues to hold a sizable, 17-point lead over the billionaire real estate developer and reality TV star, that margin is down from 24 points in July.

The proportion of likely voters holding an unfavorable view of Clinton has also increased 10 percent since the July poll, which was conducted before the Democratic and Republican conventions.

By contrast, Trump is showing some improvement in his still very negative standing among California voters, the poll said.

Where the July poll had only 24 percent of voters in California viewing Trump favorably, the new poll shows 31 percent now view him positively.

Still, 56 percent of voters in California continue to view him very unfavorably.
