Clinic Doctors Say HOA Defamed Them

KNOXVILLE (CN) - A medical clinic and four doctors demand $15 million from a homeowners association and an E.W. Scripps newspaper, which allegedly defamed them by accusing the clinic of "overprescribing narcotics" and of being a problem in the "Narcotic Trade."

Bearden Healthcare Associates sued the Westwood Homeowners Association, its newsletter Westwood News, numerous officers, and E.W. Scripps Co. and its weekly, Metro Pulse.

Bearden runs a chronic pain management clinic. The defendants allegedly accused it of creating a "drug zone" because many of its prescriptions are filled at a nearby pharmacy.

The clinic alleges defamation and interference with business. It is represented in Knox County Court by Robert McReynolds III.
