MINEOLA, N.Y. (CN) - Clients of an attorney who killed his wife, their two daughters and himself sued the lawyer's estate for $1.7 million. William M. Parente, of Garden City, N.Y., was suspected of running a $20 million Ponzi scheme before he killed his family and himself in a Maryland hotel room in April 2009.
In their complaint in Nassau County Court, Nicholas Longo, Nicole Longo Sims and Selena Longo Stapler accuse Parente of legal malpractice. They say he fraudulently induced them to give him the $1.7 million, which he converted for his own use.
Nassau County Surrogate's Court appointed Eric P. Milgrim, the public administrator of Nassau County, to oversee Parente's estate.
The plaintiffs are represented by Steven Tannenbaum with Horowitz, Tannenbaum & Silver of Lake Success, N.Y.
