Clever Factory Insists It Owns Rights To Crazy 8s And Old Maid Cards

NASHVILLE (CN) - Someone owns the rights to Crazy 8s and Old Maid? The Clever Factory says it owns designs and illustrations used to teach and play the immortal card games, and also for the game "Matching."

It says Kroger Co. and others have illicitly enriched themselves by selling more than 75,000 packs of knockoff cards. Defendants Pacific York Industries and Main Street Traders, both of Hong Kong, are accused of exporting the knockoffs to the United States through defendants M&G Pacific Toys, owned or run by Mike Kjer, both of Vancouver, B.C. The Clever Factory - which says it has sold 4 million of the games in the past three years - demands treble damages, an injunction and destruction of the counterfeit goods. It is represented by Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis. See complaint.
