Environmentalists sued the California Department of Fish and Wildlife on Thursday claiming the state’s “safe harbor agreement” will let a timber company clear-cut the habitat of the endangered Humboldt marten, a forest-dwelling carnivore whose numbers in the area have dwindled to below 200.
