MANHATTAN (CN) - Shoshanna's Matches, which "claims to be New York City's No. 1 Jewish Matchmaker," charges "far greater than $2,500" for its services, though New York's Dating Service Law limits charges for "social referral services" to $1,000 a year, a class action claims in New York County Court.
The Dating Service Law also requires that "if the service cost is greater than $25, the seller must provide the consumer with a minimum number of referrals per month," the complaint states. "If this is not done, the consumer has a right to cancel the contract and receive a full refund. Moreover, all contracts for social referral services must allow the consumer to cancel the service with three (3) business days with no cancellation fee."
But named plaintiff Nava Sheena says Shoshanna Rikon, who runs Shoshanna's Matches out of a 5th Avenue office, broke that law in virtually every respect. She claims at least 500 people were victimized. She is represented by Sara Wyn Kane with Valli Kane & Vagnini.
