Class Claims Ring-Tone Fraud Targets Kids

SAN DIEGO (CN) - VeriSign and New Cingular Wireless target minors in a fraudulent marketing campaign that falsely claims kids can download ring tones for free, a class-action complaint claims in Federal Court.

Lead plaintiff Tom Steffan claims the defendants have been defrauding children this way for years, and that VeriSign also runs the scheme under the trade name Jamster. A separate class-action complaint accuses VeriSign of running the same scam with T-Mobile USA.
