BELLEVILLE, Ill. - American International South Insurance Co.'s underinsured motorist insurance policy is worthless, a class action claims in St. Clair County Court.
Lead plaintiff Lesley Schaeperkoetter says American International routinely offers underinsured motorist coverage equal to the state's statutory minimum for it. American International also collects a separate premium for underinsured coverage, though the premium provides no coverage because it is the same as the mandatory underinsured coverage, according to the complaint.
The class consists of any Illinois driver who bought an American International auto policy with a discrete premium for underinsured motorist coverage and limits equal to the minimum amount of uninsured motorist coverage of Illinois.
The class is represented by Bradley Lakin of Wood River, Ill.
