Class Claims Escrow Office ‘Imploded’

CHICAGO (CN) - American Escrow and its officers took property tax and insurance money from hundreds or thousands of homeowners but shut down without paying the money owed or giving refunds, a class action claims in Federal Court.

Plaintiffs say the Chicago-based office and its Highland Park-based principals took money from customers in at least 11 states, until it "imploded," and shut down in March, with no warning.

Plaintiffs estimate damages of more than $5 million. They are represented by Mike Kanovitz with Loevy & Loevy.

The law office, coincidentally, is about a block from the old American Escrow office.
