Class Claims Chili’s Lies About Fatty Foods

DALLAS (CN) - A federal class action accuses Chili's Bar & Grill of deceiving customers by undercounting the fat and calories in its food. Defendant Brinker International's On The Border Mexican Grill and Cantina and Romano's Macaroni Grill are accused of doing the same thing.

Brinkers operates "thousands" of restaurants under the three named chains, the complaint states. It claims the defendants falsely advertise their allegedly low-fat foods as Chili's "Guiltless Grill," Macaroni's "Sensible Fare," and On The Border's "Border Smart" menu items.

It claims Chili's Guiltless Grill Salmon contains 35.5 grams of fat - 250% more than the advertised 14 grams. It claims Chili's Guiltless Chicken Sandwich contains 23.3 grams of fat - nearly 300% the 8 grams advertised. And it cites comparable results for other menu items.

Plaintiffs' lead counsel is Robert Kleinman with Sutton Kleinman of Austin.

A similar class action, against Applebees, was filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
