Class-Actions Claim Credit Violations

MILWAUKEE (CN) - Esurance Insurance Co. illegally obtains people's credit reports and uses them to hawk insurance, according to a federal class-action complaint. The named plaintiff says Esurance sent him a letter stating, "This 'pre-screened' offer of insurance is based on information in your credit report." Another federal class-action complaint accuses Western Sierra Acceptance Corp. of doing the same thing to sell cars. See a sample complaint.
