Class Action Calls Quadrant Homes Toxic

SEATTLE (CN) - Weyerhaeuser subsidiary Quadrant Corp. defrauded and endangered or injured "thousands" of homebuyers who bought "hundreds" of Quadrant homes contaminated with mold and airborne fiberglass due to shoddy construction, and sold the homes by hiding and misrepresenting the defects, a class-action complaint claims in King County Court.

Quadrant advertises itself as Washington's biggest home builder.

Plaintiffs claim "The Quadrant Corporation's own experts prepared a report finding excessive moisture and visible mold multiplying and growing throughout virtually every Quadrant home the expert evaluated. The Quadrant Corporation has secreted and withheld from its customers this information about the unsafe and toxic conditions and serious health hazards."

They claim that Quadrant sold the homes through misrepresentations after its experts "confirmed serious health problems in Quadrant homes" and that "infants, children and adults have suffered and continue to suffer serious health problems because of Quadrant's active deceit."

They claim Quadrant "has internally documented hundreds of Quadrant homes that have been sold with serious problems including significant infestation and growth of toxic, pathogenic, and allergenic mold propagating and multiplying in crawl spaces, in wall cavities and in attics. The dangerous mold spores along with other harmful gases and particulates - including airborne fiber glass - are distributed throughout the household air by shoddy and flawed heating systems."

They claim "The Quadrant's own experts have documented the widespread existence of these dangerous indoor air-quality problems in Quadrant homes in at least each of the following Quadrant communities: Brookside (Bonney Lake), Snoqualmie Ridge (Snoqualmie), Northlake Ridge (Federal Way), Fern Crest (Kent), Redmond Ridge (Redmond), Liberty Ridge (Renton), Trovitsky Park (Renton), Pasadera (Everett), Wesley Park (Sammamish), Northwest Landing (DuPont), Farm at Woods Creek (Monroe), Shaunessy (Bothell), Kentlake Highlands (Covington), Skagit Highlands (Mount Vernon), Remington (Monroe), Foxglove (Bothell), Edmonds Village (Edmonds), Silverwood (Federal Way), Berkshire Glenn (Auburn), Kate's Ridge (Maple Ridge) Hoffman Hills and Pioneer Place (Renton)."

Represented by Lory Lybeck with Lybeck Murphy, plaintiffs seek punitive damages. See complaint.
