Civil Forfeiture

In federal court in California, the Department of Justice reached a $49 million settlement of civil forfeiture cases involving assets acquired by Khadem al-Qubaisi using funds allegedly misappropriated from Malaysia’s investment development fund. The recovery of funds is the largest ever under the department’s Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative.
