Citizenship

The child of a gay couple who was born in England via a gestational surrogate is a U.S. citizen and entitled to a passport, a federal court in Georgia ruled. The State Department initially denied the girl’s passport application, claiming she was not a citizen because she only shares a biological relationship with one of her parents, who had not been physically present in the U.S. for long enough.
