LOS ANGELES (CN) – The State of California has refused to collect more than $88 million in taxes from Lexington Insurance Co. since 2003, taxpayers claim in Superior Court. Plaintiffs say Sec. 28 of the California Constitution demands Lexington pay annual taxes of 2.35% of its gross premiums from business done in California – $3.8 billion – but the state Board of Equalization has been giving it a free ride.
