Circuit Denies Death Benefits To Vet’s Widow

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Federal Circuit denied death benefits to the widow of a Vietnam veteran who killed his daughter and then shot himself, allegedly while suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. But because the veteran was never diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder, the court affirmed the conclusion that his suicide was the result of "willful misconduct, not unsound mind."
