WASHINGTON - The ACLU sued the CIA for two documents: "a Senate Select Committee on Intelligence investigative report detailing the CIA's now-discontinued program of rendition, detention, torture, and other abuse of detainees, and the CIA's report in response, in which it defends those unlawful practices."
The Senate report is 6,000 pages long, the ACLU says in the federal FOIA lawsuit.
"The SSCI sent a copy of its report to the CIA, and the CIA eventually issued its own report in response ('CIA Report'). The CIA's response is reportedly a detailed defense of its detention, torture, and abuse of detainees," according to the complaint.
The ACLU asked to see both documents, and the CIA hasn't released either of them, the ACLU says.
It wants to see the documents - and it doesn't want to be charged for them.
It's represented by staff attorneys Hina Shamsi in New York City and Arthur Spitzer in Washington, D.C.
