CIA Interrogations

WASHINGTON (CN) - President Obama has revoked the executive order that lays out former President Bush's contention that CIA interrogations have complied with the Geneva Convention and all of the former administrations findings and orders since Sept. 11, 2001.

Obama also has replaced the vague definition of legal interrogation techniques with a directive for U.S. departments and agencies to use only techniques from Army Field Manual 2-23.3, which lists "waterboarding" as an unacceptable interrogation technique.

Additionally, President Obama ordered the CIA to close any detention facilities that it currently operates and forbids the agency from opening any in the future.

To show the new administration's commitment to international law, Obama included that the International Committee of the Red Cross will have access to any individual in the custody of the United States detained in any armed conflict.
