Chinese Men Charged with Technology Transfer of Infrared Cameras to China

LOS ANGELES (CN) - Two Chinese men were charged last week with sending thermal-imaging cameras to China over a 5 year period without government approval. The cameras are based on highly sensitive U.S. technology that has a military application, said prosecutors.

Charles Lee, 31, purportedly bought the cameras for just under $10,000 and delivered them to his uncle, Sam Lee. Sam, 63, then shipped the cameras to China through his Hacienda Heights company, Multimillion Business Associate Corporation between 2002 and 2007. The men did not have an export permit.

Overall, ten cameras were exported.

Charles Lee is known to work for a company in Shanghai which develops infrared technology.

The United States Attorney's Office declined to comment.

Both men were arrested last week and could face a maximum of 25 years in prison.
