Children Say They Were Sexually|Abused At Texas Immigration Jail

SAN ANTONIO (CN) - Ten immigrant children, all from Central America, say they were sexually and physically abused while imprisoned at the Department of Homeland Security's contract immigration prison in Nixon, Texas. The prison in Gonzalez County, and its employees and directors, have been sued repeatedly on these allegations.

Defendants in this federal case include Nixon CEO G. Don Rains of San Marcos, Texas; Nixon employee Ruben Velazquez; Nixon jail guard Michelle Arriola; federal employee Tesgaye Wolde; and the United States government.

Eight boys claim they were sexually abused by Belinda Leal, a Nixon guard; two claim they were not sexually abused only because they rejected her advances.

One boy claims she forced oral sex upon him; one claims she masturbated him; one claims he was so badly abused for blowing the whistle on Leal that he tried to commit suicide in the Nixon prison, and was given no counseling or treatment of any kind, before or afterward, but was transferred to another prison, where he also was denied treatment.

The boys are represented by Jennifer Harbury of Weslaco.
