Chicago Police Brutality Spreads To Suburbs

CHICAGO (CN) - The brutality that characterizes the Chicago Police Department has spread to the suburbs, according to two civil rights complaints in Federal Court.

The Chicago law office of Loevy & Loevy, which has handled many civil rights complaints against Chicago cops, sued the City of Markham and its police Officers Harris and D. Walker, on behalf of a gay client. The man claims officers entered his home without warrant, and without reason, searched the place while holding him at gunpoint, then showed his neighbors a homosexual video they claimed to have found in his place and told them he was HIV-positive, after finding his medicine.

In the other case, the law office of Andrew Miller sued the Village of Tinley Park and its police Officer Joseph Vega, claiming that, apparently as a lark, Vega shot plaintiff Alexander Mendez in the head with a Taser, causing him to go onto convulsions, bite off part of his tongue and lose consciousness. The complaint, filed on behalf of Vega and his wife, claims that other police officers then confiscated evidence of the assault, the video surveillance tape.
