Chamber Of Commerce Sues Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (CN) - The Chamber of Commerce has challenged an Oklahoma state law that seeksto enforce immigration laws through requirements imposed on employers. The employers say the field of immigration enforcement is the job of the federal government, and the Oklahoma law is preempted by national legislation.

The Chamber says sections 7 and 9 of Oklahoma HB 1804, the Oklahoma Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act of 2007, bars employers from state contracts if they do not participate in the Department of Homeland Security's error-riddled Status Verification System and/or Basic Pilot Program.
