Central American|Birds Are Endangered

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Andean flamingo, Chilean woodstar and St. Lucia forest thrush are endangered throughout their range and should be protected under the Endangered Species Act according a finding by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The agency decision follows a 2008 order by the United States District Court for the Northern District of California which required the agency to issue final determinations on five species of birds the agency had previously concluded were endangered but which were precluded from listing by higher priority species.

The medium tree finch and the black breasted puffleg-the other two species of birds mentioned in the District Court order-were found to be endangered in a previous announcement by the agency.
