Center Treated Teen ‘Like Refuse,’ Parents Say

SAN ANTONIO (CN) - A faith-based drug and alcohol treatment program told a resident to panhandle at Wal-Mart, forced him off his prescription anti-depression medication and abandoned him in Waco, Texas, "tired, hungry, dirty, broke, nameless, alone, hopeless and without the means to obtain help," his parents say in Bexar County Court. They claim Justin De'Andre Paulk was so desperate that he drove headfirst into traffic and died.

"Teen Challenge treated Justin like refuse -- to be thrown to the side and ignored," Darron and Chaunfayta Paulk claim. Their son was 20 years old when he died.

They are suing Teen Challenge of Texas for wrongful death and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Charles Peckham is their attorney.
