CeeLo Green Avoids Jail Time in Ecstasy Case

LOS ANGELES (CN) - Singer-songwriter CeeLo Green accepted a plea deal Friday, accepting a charge that he gave Ecstasy to a 33-year-old woman in 2012.

Best known for the Gnarls Barkley's 2006 hit "Crazy" and his appearances on TV singing contest "The Voice," Green, real name, Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, 39, pleaded to one felony count of furnishing a controlled substance, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office said.

Superior Court Judge Mark Young sentenced Green to three years of formal probation and ordered him to complete 360 hours of community service. The judge also ordered Green to attend 52 alcoholic anonymous/narcotics anonymous meetings.

Green allegedly gave the unnamed woman the drug at the Wokcano restaurant in July 2012, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Claiming that Green had placed the drug in her drink as they were dining, the woman told authorities that she later woke up in her hotel room to find herself naked, next to the singer in bed.

Despite two investigations, sexual assault charges were never filed against the singer, the Times reported. Green's attorney Blair Berk described his client's relationship with the woman as "consensual."

Green must return to the court next March and present a progress report, the prosecutor said.
