NASHVILLE (CN) - Corrections Corporation of America faces two federal lawsuits, one from a mother who says her son was beaten to death by a cellmate that CCA knew had threatened to harm him. The other claims CCA punished a nonviolent, mentally disabled man for his mental problems by putting him in long-term solitary confinement, giving him few if any showers "for months at a time," withholding his mail, and denying him visitation.
Much-sued CCA is the largest private prison company in America. It operates 65 prison, 41 of them company owned, for 78,500 inmates in 19 states and the District of Columbia. These complaints, like many others, allege widespread noncompliance in the CCA prison, in these cases, in Nashville.
The mentally disabled man is represented by W. Gary Blackburn with Blackburn & McCune.
The mother of the dead man is represented by Phillip Davidson.
