Cat Pays With Life for Owner’s Affair

JOLIET, Ill. (CN) - A man admitted he cut the throat of his brother's cat in a jealous rage after he found out his brother had an affair with his fiancée.

Sean Mulcahy, 31, of Homer Glen, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of animal cruelty.

Prosecutors asked for a 3-month jail sentence, but a Will County judge sentenced him to 30 months of probation and 150 hours of community service.

Mulcahy cannot own a pet while he's on probation.

Police say Mulcahy killed the cat and sent his brother of photo of his dead pet with a text message: "This is what you are doing to me."

A spokesman for the Will County state's attorney told The Associated Press that Mulcahy was "enraged and intoxicated" at the time of the August attack.
