LAS VEGAS (CN) - The Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino will pay $100,000 to settle an employment class action from poker dealers it did not pay for attending meetings and picking up and dropping off uniforms before and after their shifts.
U.S. District Judge Andrew Gordon approved a joint settlement motion for a maximum settlement of $100,000 to 66 poker dealers.
Lead plaintiff Judith Smith sued in Clark County Court in November 2014, seeking pay and overtime pay for the off-the-clock duties.
The complaint was removed to Federal Court, where the joint settlement motion was filed on July 7.
Judge Gordon ordered the casino to pay $70,000 to class members, another $5,000 to Smith and $25,000 in attorney's fees and costs.
Joshua Buck, with Thierman Buck of Reno, represented the class.
Mandalay Bay was represented by Elayna Youchah with Jackson Lewis, of Las Vegas.
Neither attorney was immediately available for comment Monday.
