Cardiologist Charged With Medicare Fraud

CHICAGO (CN) - Federal prosecutors say a cardiologist defrauded Medicare and insurance companies of more than $13 million by charging for services he never provided. Dr. Sushil Sheth, 49, faces one count of health care fraud.

Sheth received $13.4 million from January 2002 to July 2007 for reimbursements for high levels of cardiac care that Sheth never performed, according to U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald's office.

If convicted, Sheth faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
