WASHINGTON (CN) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration seeks updated information on vehicle makers' product plans for model years 2017 and beyond, to assess what corporate average fuel economy standards should be for passenger cars and light trucks.
The agency must establish corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act, as amended by the Energy Independence and Security Act.
The request has been made in preparation for an upcoming Joint Notice of Proposed Rulemaking by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency regarding future CAFE and greenhouse gas standards currently anticipated to be released by Sept. 30, 2011.
