California Wants Lead Toys Yanked

OAKLAND, CALIF. (CN) - The State of California and City of Los Angeles sued 20 companies on Monday, accusing them of making toys with unsafe levels of lead. The state said it was investigating the companies to force recalls of the toys, such as the 1.5 million Thomas the Tank Engines and another 4.5 million copies of 45 other toys already recalled this year. This is a Proposition 65 lawsuit, in Alameda County Court.

Here are the defendants: Mattel, Fisher-Price, Michaels Stores, Toys R Us and affiliates, Wal-Mart, Target, Sears Roebuck and affiliates, KB Toys and affiliates, Costco Wholesale, A&A Global Industries, RC2 Corporation, Eveready Battery Company, Kids II, Kmart, Marvel Entertainment, and Toy Investments.
