California Man Accused of State Park Murder, Burglaries

A California man was charged Monday in the shooting death of a father who was camping with his daughters in Malibu Creek State Park last summer, according to prosecutors who say the suspect was arrested last year in connection with a series of burglaries near the murder scene.

LOS ANGELES (CN) – A California man was charged Monday in the shooting death of a father who was camping with his daughters in Malibu Creek State Park last summer, according to prosecutors who say the suspect was arrested last year in connection with a series of burglaries near the murder scene.

Anthony Rauda, 42, was charged with the murder of Tristan Beaudette, 35, who was shot and killed while sleeping in a tent next to his two daughters on June 22, 2018, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. Beaudette’s children were not harmed.

He was also charged with 10 counts of attempted murder in a string of shootings that stretched over a two-year period, and five counts of second-degree burglary.

Authorities say he is tied to multiple shootings, assaults and burglaries across Southern California from November 2016 to October 2018.

Rauda is accused of shooting and wounding a man who was sleeping in a hammock at Malibu Creek State Park in November 2016. Just four days before Beaudette was killed last June, prosecutors claim Rauda shot at a Tesla on Las Virgenes Road.

Rauda was arrested last October while carrying a rifle in a wooded area of the same state park where the shootings occurred. He was arrested and charge for several burglaries, according to the Los Angeles Times, and was being held on a parole violation when he was charged with murder Monday.

Law enforcement said Rauda acted alone and there have been no similar shootings reported since last October.

If convicted, he could face life in state prison.
