California Gets 9 New Superior Court Judges

(CN) - The California governor appointed nine new judges to the state's superior courts.

The Governor's Office announced all nine appointments on Christmas Eve.

Keith H. Borjón, John A. Slawson and Anthony A. Trendacosta were appointed in Los Angeles County.

Keith Borjón, 55, of Whittier has worked as a deputy attorney general for the California Department of Justice since 1985. Borjón, a Democrat, fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Charles W. McCoy.

John Slawson, 64, of Rolling Hills Estates, has been a commissioner at Los Angeles Superior Court since 1993. He was a city prosecutor for Redondo Beach from 1978 to 1993 and worked in private practice from 1977 to 1989. Slawson, who is registered without party preference, fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Louise M. Meisinger.

Anthony Trendacosta, 64, of Los Angeles, has been a commissioner at Los Angeles Superior Court since 2006, and was a court referee there for 8 years before that. He was general counsel for the Santa Monica Rent Control Board from 1989 to 1998 and was in private practice before and after that.

Jeannie Joseph, 45, of Newport Beach has been deputy chief of the Santa Ana Branch Office at the U.S. Attorney's Office, Central District of California since 2002. She was in private practice for 8 years before that. She is registered without party preference.

John Zitny, 60, of Yorba Linda has been chief deputy at the San Bernardino County Public Defender's Office since 2006. He was a deputy public defender at the Orange County Public Defender's Office from 1988 to 2006 and worked for Legal Aid for 3 years before that. He is a Democrat.

Marcos R. Camacho and David R. Zulfa were appointed in Kern County.

Marcos Camacho, 55, of Bakersfield, has worked in his own law office since 1990. He was general counsel for the United Farm Workers of America from 1990 to 2009. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Jerold L. Turner. He is a Democrat.

David Zulfa, 47, of Bakersfield has been a deputy district attorney for Kern County since 2002. A Republican, Zulfa fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Louis P. Etcheverry.

Alan K. Cassidy and Rubén A. Villalobos were appointed in Stanislaus County.

Alan Cassidy, 57, of Modesto, has been a deputy district attorney in Stanislaus County since 1998. He was in private practice for 7 years before that, and was a deputy district attorney in Orange County from 1990 to 199. A Democrat, he fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Susan D. Siefkin.

Rubén Villalobos, 41, of Modesto has been in private practice since 2002, and worked at the Stanislaus County Public Defender's Office from 2000 to 2002. A Democrat, he fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Hurl W. Johnson.

California superior court judges are paid $184,610 a year.
