JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (CN) - Sex businesses have challenged a new state law that would restrict their operations. The law would ban full nudity and alcohol at strip clubs and adult stores, would ban people younger than 18, and prohibit touching between seminude employees and customers.
It also requires the businesses to close before midnight and prohibit new adult businesses from opening near homes and schools. It is scheduled to take effect Aug. 28.
In their complaint in Cole County Court, the businesses claim the restrictions violate free speech and that lawmakers did not follow proper procedures for determining the cost of the measure.
The plaintiffs include numerous adult businesses, an organization for the adult entertainment industry, and three adult dancers.
