Buses Run Again in Tucson as Strike Ends

TUCSON (CN) - The six-week strike against the private company that runs Tucson's public buses ended Wednesday night with a Teamsters vote.

Drivers and mechanics with Sun Tran, operated by Professional Transit Management, struck in early August, seeking better pay and working conditions.

Neither side released details of the deal reached after long sessions last week with a federal mediator.Teamsters Local 104 spokesman Andrew Marshall told CBS station KOLD that the "settlement was done with money that existed in the transit budget or from the savings from the strike."

Sun Tran said regular bus service on all 40 of its local routes would resume Thursday morning.

Professional Transit Management parent company is Transdev, one of the largest private-sector transit companies in North America.
