Brian Bosworth Sues|NFL & Helmet Maker

LOS ANGELES (CN) - Brian Bosworth has joined the long line of football players suing the NFL and helmet makers for multiple concussions he suffered during his playing days.

Bosworth sued the NFL, Riddell Sports Group and Easton-Bell Sports on Friday in Superior Court.

Bosworth, now an actor, claims the league knew about the risks of traumatic brain injuries for decades but inserted itself into the debate by insisting the risk to players was minimal.

Bosworth says he suffers from headaches and memory loss after suffering multiple concussions during his in two years as a linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks.

"Bosworth was not warned by the NFL, NFL Properties, Inc., or Riddell defendants of the risk of long-term injury due to football-related concussions or that the league-mandate equipment did not protect him from such injury. This was a substantial factor in causing his current injury," his 46-page complaint states.

In July, Philadelphia U.S. District Judge Anita Brody approved a $765 million settlement for thousands of NFL players who said the league misled them about traumatic brain injuries. More than 200 players opted out of the settlement, paving the way for individual claims against the league.

Bosworth seeks compensatory and punitive damages negligence, fraud, civil conspiracy, failure to want and other counts.

He is represented by Joseph Angelo with Angelo and White of Newport Beach, and Thomas Girardi with Girardi Keese, of Los Angeles.
