Botched Security Check Linked to ID Thefts

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (CN) - U.S. Security Associates claims Acxiom Information Security Services botched a background check on a man with a long criminal history. It claims it hired the man, who stole IDs from patients at Rhode Island Hospital, and defrauded at least one victim, costing the plaintiff a contract it had had for 16 years.

U.S. Security Associates claims the criminal employee and his co-conspirators were indicted on federal charges, and the ex-employee pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.

The ID thefts at the hospital were in August 2007.

U.S. Security Associates demands damages for negligent misrepresentation and breach of contract. It is represented in Superior Court by Patricia Rocha with Adler Pollock & Sheehan.
