Boss of the Week

MADISON, Wisc. (CN) - A 70-year-old vice president of sales claims the CFO of his company assaulted and battered him in a disabling, unprovoked sneak attack from behind, which necessitated emergency surgery.

James Becker sued the CFO, Robert Dettman, and Travelers Insurance in Dane County Court.

Becker and Dettman both work, or worked, for Amtelco at the time of the alleged attack, but Amtelco is not a party to the complaint.

Becker says he entered an Amtelco conference room for a meeting on Jan. 13, 2010, and Dettman entered behind him. Becker was 70 years old at the time.

"Upon entering the conference room, Dettman grabbed Becker from behind in a choke hold around Becker's neck and placed his knee in the small of Becker's back, and applied substantial force with his choke hold and knee to hyperextend Becker's back," the complaint states.

"Dettman made a statement to the effect, 'I can hurt you,' and thereafter applied substantial additional forced to further hyperextend Becker's back.

"During Dettman's assault and battery of Becker, Becker could not breath and could not defend himself."

Becker says the attack "occurred without provocation or forewarning."

Becker and his wife demand punitive damages from Dettman and Traveler's.

They are represented by Kevin Milliken with Elles, Long & Milliken.
