Border Patrolman|Charged as Voyeur

SAN DIEGO (CN) - A longtime Border Patrol officer appeared in Federal Court Monday to face a charge of lying about hiding a video camera in a women's restroom at a Border Patrol station to photograph women as they used the toilet.

Armando Gonzalez claimed that he installed the camera because he suspected one of his employees of using drugs, and told investigators that he deleted images that were not related to his drug investigation, according to the complaint of video voyeurism and false statements.

But he did not destroy the images of women's butts, breasts and genitals, according to the March 6 complaint.

Gonzalez was a supervisor for the Border Patrol's Critical Incident Investigation Team, which houses the bathroom where he is accused of installing the camera.

One of the images captured by the camera was of him installing it, according to the complaint.

The 5-page complaint asks that all other documents related to the case be sealed, to prevent Gonzales from fleeing and/or destroying evidence.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Jill Burkhardt set bond at $50,000 and ordered Gonzalez not to contact any of his alleged victims.

Gonzalez is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 19 and arraignment on April 2.
