Bootleg Movie Guy Just Can’t Do Right

ST. LOUIS (CN) - A St. Louis man was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison and a lifetime of supervised release for running a large-scale bootleg movie business and failing to register as a sex offender.

Saidou A. Dia, 46, created counterfeit and bootleg movies out of his home and business - Dia's House of Beauty, in St. Louis.

Officials seized more than 6,400 counterfeit movies in May, along with 10 DVD-burning towers capable of burning 90 bootleg movies at once.

Prosecutors say Dia also was involved in a large-scale counterfeit movie operation in Franklin County, Ohio in June 2008.

Dia was convicted in 2005 of unlawful sexual contact with a minor in Ohio. That conviction required Dia to register as a sex offender, but he failed to do so after moving to St. Louis.

Dia pleaded guilty in August to one felony count of copyright infringement and one felony count of failing to register as a sex offender.
