ORLANDO (CN) - A Florida judge on Sunday granted four extra hours of early voting after a bomb squad was called to an early voting site in Winter Park, where two suspicious packages were found and detonated.
The incident closed the polling place for hours on Saturday and left voters stuck as surrounding streets were blocked off.
Orange County Circuit Court Judge R.K. Whitehead granted the injunction.
The Florida Democratic Party filed the emergency injunction against the supervisor of elections, seeking extending early voting hours due to the closure and bomb scare.
"Such relief is necessary in light of the closing of the polls at the Winter Park Library early voting site as a result of suspicious packages that required the immediate attention of law enforcement," the complaint said. "The polls were closed for 4 hours, the result of which was to shorten significantly the time available for early voting today, the last day of early voting."
The Winter Park Library was open Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
The ruling came days after Gov. Rick Scott denied a request to extend early voting due to long lines that may have discouraged voters.
