MANHATTAN (CN) - A man who wore military decorations without earning them, including multiple Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and the Distinguished Service Cross, was sentenced Wednesday to a year of probation and 100 hours of community service. Louis Lowell McGuinn, discharged as a private in 1968, held himself out as a lieutenant colonel and showed up at military functions in his false regalia. The federal magistrate who sentenced him said McGuinn damaged the prestige of people who legitimately earned the medals.
