WASHINGTON (CN) - L'Oreal settled deceptive trade charges from the FTC that accused it of making bogus claims that its pricey cosmetics could make skin look younger by "target(ing) specific genes."
L'Oreal falsely claims that its products were "clinically proven" to "boost genes' activity," the FTC said in a statement announcing the settlement.
The company sold the cosmetics for as much as $132 per container, the FTC said.
L'Oreal agreed to stop doing it. The consent order does not mention any financial penalty, but the FTC said it could be fined up to $16,000 each time it violates the order.
