HARTFORD, Conn. (CN) - An assistant for the Blues Brothers band "negligently and carelessly" busted the automatic sprinkler system in a tribe's hotel, causing more than $450,000 in property damage, the hotel's insurer claims in Federal Court.
ACE American Insurance Co. claims that Jesse Donnelly, the longtime assistant of Blues Brothers co-founder and manager Jim Belushi, placed "clothing items, hangers and other materials on the sprinkler head in room 30125" of the MGM Grand at Foxwoods, a hotel owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.
As a result, water "sprayed and flowed out of the open sprinkler head into various areas of the hotel, causing substantial damage" to the tribe's property, ACE claims.
After the tribe paid its $100,000 deductible, ACE says it covered the remaining $350,000 in damage. It seeks reimbursement from Donnelly, Sacred Hearts Touring (doing business as the Blues Brothers), Belushi and Whitehorse Productions.
The insurance company is represented by Stuart Blackburn of Windsor Locks.
