LOS ANGELES (CN) - Former drummer for punk band Blink 182 Travis Barker sued a charter flight service for the September plane crash that killed four people, including Barker's security guard Charles Still, his personal assistant Chris Baker, and the pilot and co-pilot. Fellow musician Adam Goldstein, aka DJ AM, was the only other survivor.
Barker suffered extensive second- and third degree burns in the South Carolina crash.
Barker and Still's mother, Thelma Still, say the accident was caused by faulty tires that blew out during takeoff. They say the deceased pilots erred by aborting the take off in response to the blowout.
According to the Superior Court complaint, the pilots couldn't keep the plane from leaving the runway, so it crashed through the runway safety area, hitting airport lights, navigation buildings, and fences before smashing into an embankment and erupting in flames.
Defendants include Clay Lacy Aviation, Global Exec Aviation, Inter Travel and Services, Goodyear and Bombardier.
Plaintiffs are represented by Walter Lack and Mark Millard with Engstrom, Lipscomb & Lack.
